Lab2D4 is a research group on Mesoscopic Physics, with main emphasis in the study of the electronic, structural, optical and magnetic properties of low dimensional systems, two dimensional crystals such as graphene, silicene, blue phosphorene, germanene and transition metal dichalcogenides monolayers, and materials whose carrier transport behaves like Dirac, Weyl and Majorana fermions.
Lad2D4 begin in 2010 with the approved project "Quantum dots and antidots in graphene" by CSI-VI-UNMSM, whose financial support permit us to buy the first computer to develop the numerical research of such systems. From 2010 through 2016, our group was dedicated to numerical research of the physical properties of systems mentioned in the previous paragraph.
The results of these research was published here in the RIF, www.rif-fisica.org, in the same period, 2010-2016. And some results was presented in two thesis, the first presented by Pablo Aslla for his Master Degree, in july, 2014. And the second, by Diana Arrieta for her Licenciatura en Física, in august, 2014.
Lab2D4 had acquired in the 2010-2016 period a computational resources for numerical simulations with the financial support from CSI-VRI-UNMSM and other sources. In the last year, 2016, we had begin acquiring some instruments for experimental work.
The purpose of Lab2D4 for the next years is to design and develop the experimental setups for to obtain samples with strict properties designed and observed by previous numerical research. This methodology will permit us to create a production proccess which will saving much money for new experimental and numerical research.
The Lab2D4 focus on obtain transition metal dichalcogenides monolayers samples of type MX2, with M=Mo,W and X=S, Se and Te; which will be produced by micromechanical cleavage, just as graphene. And 3D materials, like WTe2 -in another phase-, for observing Weyl and Majoarana fermions.
The Lab2D4 group had acquired in the 2010-2016 period a computational infrastructure for numerical simulations of physical properties of novel materials and devices. The Lab2D4 have three workstations of high performance with Tesla and other Nvidia GPUs, three laptops, a laser print, two hub-switchs, two no-breaks, two computer monitors, an oscilloscope and many electronic components which was acquired with the financial support of the CSI-VRI-UNMSM and others resources. The last two items in 2016, when we begin our experimental work.
The Lab2D4 group actually is working in the 204 room of the main building of the Facultad de Ciencias Físicas, Ciudad Universitaria, Lima, Perú. The activities of the group is centralized in this lab since 2010 due to special properties of the room, is small, secure and we have installed an appropriate cooling system for to maintain an adequate thermal level for the functioning computers.
